Analysts from the Association "Pig Farmers of Ukraine" note that pork exports exceed imports for the second month in a row, according to preliminary data from the customs statistics of the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
"During July, almost 150 tons of pork were imported into Ukraine, which is 23.5% less than the previous month. However, pork export volumes for the second month of summer amounted to over 400 tons, exceeding the June figure by more than 36%. Overall, pork imports for the first 7 months of the year amounted to 1.78 thousand tons, while exports amounted to 1.64 thousand tons, and the discrepancy in monetary terms does not exceed 10% or 0.4 million USD," say the Association representatives.
One of the reasons explained by the analysts of the ASU is the price situation in the Ukrainian pork market.
"Although the average purchase price of pork slightly exceeded the June figure in July, overall quotations remain at a rather low level. This, on one hand, forms an organic entry barrier for imports and leads to a reduction in the average customs value of imported products. On the other hand, it supports the competitiveness of Ukrainian pork in foreign markets. The average customs value of exported pork over 7 months is 2.45 USD compared to 2.5 USD for imports," the experts note.
The main external market for Ukrainian pork is the UAE, which accounts for 85.7% of the total exports for the period. EU countries supply 37.8% of pork, while Canada supplies 62.2%.
