The new head of the EU industry calls for a 'Europe Above All' strategy for key business sectors
Vice President of the European Commission Stéphane Séjourné, former French Foreign Minister and close ally of President Emmanuel Macron, told the Financial Times that Europe must act in 'offense' to promote its strategic business interests and avoid being 'captured' by subsidized imports from China, reports ZN.UA.
'I am deeply convinced that Europe has all the advantages of being open to the world. But when China says 'Made in China' or the US says 'America First', we must say: 'Made in Europe' or 'Europe Above All'', believes Séjourné.
The new commission pledged to restore the EU's competitiveness over the next five years - a task that will become more difficult if elected President Donald Trump follows through on his threats to impose high tariffs on all imports, tear up trade agreements, and deregulate for American businesses.
Séjourné added that if all global markets close, the only open market that remains cannot be the European market.
