President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen presented a plan for rearmament of the European Union and support for Ukraine. A budget of 800 billion euros is planned. The President of the European Parliament emphasized the urgent measures of the EU in light of security threats.
The plan includes five areas of funding, including the use of national public funds and a new instrument for providing loans to member states. The President of the EC also proposes to utilize the EU budget for defense investments and attract private capital through the expansion of the investment market and the involvement of the European Investment Bank.
Slovakia and Hungary have already refused to support Ukraine.
