As of July 1, 2025, the most frequently encountered banknote in circulation in Ukraine was the 1,000 hryvnia note. The number of these notes has increased by 406.6 million since the beginning of the year.

NBU data on the circulation of cash in Ukraine

The regulator's report states that there are 2.6 billion banknotes in circulation with a total value of 851.2 billion hryvnias. At the beginning of July, there were 63 banknotes per Ukrainian.

While the 1,000 hryvnia banknote is the most common, the situation for 50-hryvnia notes is completely opposite — there are 112.7 million of them in circulation worth 5.6 billion hryvnias.

What about coins

The cash circulation includes both change and circulating coins. The latter come in four denominations:

  • one hryvnia;
  • two hryvnias;
  • five hryvnias;
  • ten hryvnias.

Of these:

  • the most common are 1 hryvnia coins — 653 million pieces;
  • the least common are 10 hryvnia coins — 303 million pieces.

In contrast, there are only two denominations of change coins — 10 and 50 kopecks, with 4.1 billion and 1.4 billion pieces, respectively.

At the same Time, the NBU notes that 10 kopeck coins are increasingly less used for payment for goods and services, while there remains steady demand for 50 kopeck coins.

The National Bank of Ukraine's message reveals data regarding cash circulation in the country as of July 2025. It is noted that 1,000 hryvnia banknotes are the most frequently encountered in circulation, while 50-hryvnia banknotes are less common. The message also indicates the number of change and circulating coins of various denominations, as well as their usage features in the economy.
