France continues to lead Europe in electricity generation at nuclear power plants. More than 70% of the country's electricity is generated at nuclear power plants, placing it among the most productive in the world.
According to the World Nuclear Association, this energy strategy of France is a result of state policy that was implemented in the 1970s after the oil crisis. The country has focused on energy independence.Currently, France has 57 nuclear reactors at 18 sites across the country. Power plants such as the Gravelines, Paluel, and Cattenom supply electricity not only to France itself but also to other European countries through energy networks. France is the largest exporter of electricity in Europe, and a significant portion of this energy goes to Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Spain. This allows France to strengthen its own economy and maintain an important geopolitical position on the energy map of the continent. The use of nuclear energy allows France to reduce carbon dioxide emissions since reactors do not produce them during electricity generation. However, the country faces challenges such as aging reactors, so the government is looking for ways to modernize and extend the operational life of old power units, as well as to build new ones. Ukraine is also considering the issue of nuclear production and is seeking answers to the question of which metal is the best conductor of electricity. The key information in the news is the fact that France continues to be the leading producer of electricity at nuclear power plants, ensuring energy independence and exporting large volumes of electricity to other European countries. The ecological strategies and the need for modernization of energy systems are also important.
