Robert Lansing Institute: Why Russia Fears the End of the War with Ukraine.
The end of the hostilities between the Ukrainian military and Russian aggression is approaching. However, experts from the Robert Lansing Institute assert that Russia has no desire to end this war. This is due to potential social and economic problems that would result from it.
Scientists believe that failed negotiations between the US and Ukraine may be related to Russia's unwillingness to sign a peace agreement. The Kremlin leadership is worried that the situation will repeat itself, as it did after the war in Afghanistan in 1989.
After the end of the Afghan war, Soviet veterans faced significant social problems. Crime, isolation, homelessness, poverty, mental health crises, and political activism were the main consequences of the war.
Experts say that Russia fears that the situation with veterans in Ukraine might replicate the same consequences. The rise of violent crime among returning veterans is a serious issue for Russian society. Additionally, economic troubles and political instability may emerge after the war ends.
