On the evening of April 20, Russian troops occupied Katerynivka in the Lyman direction, reports the monitoring project DeepState.

It is also reported that the occupiers continue their advance in the areas of Novo, Preobrazhenka, and Skhnya Balka.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin stated that from 6:00 PM on April 19 to 12:00 AM on April 21, he ordered to cease hostilities. However, he also warned that the Russian troops are ready to respond to violations of the ceasefire and provocations.

Initially, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called this statement 'another attempt by Putin to play with people's lives.' However, he later stated that Ukraine is ready to join a complete ceasefire and act reciprocally to Russia - silence in response to silence, strikes in defense against strikes. Zelensky also proposed to extend the 'Easter ceasefire' for 30 days if this silence is genuine.

Unfortunately, despite Russia's statements about observing the ceasefire, Ukrainian military reports continue of hostilities and shelling.

The National Guard also spoke about how Russian troops use the ceasefire.

Analysis:

The occupation of Katerynivka by Russian troops in the Lyman direction indicates the continuation of Russia's aggressive actions in eastern Ukraine. Putin's statement about the 'Easter ceasefire' masks further advances. Ukraine responds to aggression and conducts defensive operations, but it needs the support of the international community to contain Russia and restore peace in Donbas.
