Destruction of the tunnel in the metro - a KCSA official has been charged

On Thursday, July 10, the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office announced that it had charged an official of the KCSA Department of Transport Infrastructure due to professional negligence that led to the destruction of a tunnel in the capital's metro. This was reported by the prosecutor's office press service on Telegram.

Destruction in Kyiv Metro

In December 2023, due to the destruction of the tunnel between the 'Demiivska' and 'Lybidska' stations, train services between 'Lybidska' and 'Teremky' were suspended. The Director of the Department of Transport Infrastructure failed to oversee the work of enterprises and did not participate in the consideration of issues of technological and natural nature, leading to the closure of metro stations.

'The improper performance of duties by the official led to the untimely detection of an emergency situation in the metro and the lack of measures to eliminate it'

The closure of the stations resulted in a loss of revenue from passenger transport and additional costs for the Kyiv budget. Therefore, the official has been charged with professional negligence leading to the destruction of the tunnel.

It is also worth mentioning that a major overhaul of the escalators has begun at the 'Palats Ukraina' station, and a tender for the major repair of the bridge near 'Osokorky' has been announced on the Prozorro website for 655 million hryvnias.

The news about the charges against the official of the KCSA Department of Transport Infrastructure in connection with the destruction of the tunnel in the metro can be assessed as negative for the public transport system of the capital. It also emphasizes the importance of accountability and control over compliance with technical safety regulations in such important sectors as public transport.
