Reaction of the Mayor of Lviv to the scandal regarding the treatment of a patient with SMA
The Mayor of Lviv, Andrii Sadovyi, expressed his opinion on the scandal involving SMA activist Nazar Husakov, to whom the Lviv City Council allocated UAH 3.5 million for treatment with the drug 'Risdyplam'. This was reported by 'Glavkom' with reference to the mayor's post on social media.
Sadovyi explained the agreement with 'Roche Ukraine' and that Husakov became the first adult Lviv resident to start receiving medication free of charge in June 2024, specifically the drug 'Evrisdi'.
'He underwent genetic testing, and specialists from the Institute of Hereditary Pathology determined the required dosage for him. According to the agreement, the manufacturer doubles each package purchased by the city for free,' the message states.
Currently, Husakov receives three vials a month.
'All this Time, he received the necessary medications at the expense of the city and state budgets. When Nazar mentioned that he needed to increase the dosage due to muscle weakness, the doctors suggested he undergo re-testing to assess the necessity. As of now, Nazar has not yet undergone this examination but stated plans to do so after returning to Lviv,' Sadovyi reported.

The mayor noted that when the city council provided the man with medication, they hoped that fundraising would cease.
'But after some time, fundraising resumed as Nazar needs not only medication but also auxiliary means, physical rehabilitation, and massages, which are insufficient under medical guarantees. This case brings us to the need to be attentive, to report on the funds used, and to maintain trust in the field of charity,' the mayor added.
The incident with Husakov drew attention to issues of charity and treatment for patients with rare diseases, emphasizing the importance of goodness and trust in such matters.
