According to Bild, the phone call between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, which took place on October 18, was coordinated with several leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and French President Emmanuel Macron. Bild reports this.
The purpose of the meeting was to determine whether Putin was ready for negotiations. The conversation was conducted in German, but Putin responded in Russian, so Scholz needed a translator.
Information about the conversation
In October, the Chancellor expressed his intention to speak with Putin. After that, Putin expressed a desire to communicate with him. On November 15, a phone call took place between Scholz and Putin, during which they discussed the war in Ukraine. During the conversation, Scholz urged Putin to end Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
Further details of the conversation have not been disclosed, but according to Tagesschau and Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the conversation lasted about an hour.
