Mysterious 'doors' in Antarctica: Google Maps discovery thrilled social networks.

Mysterious "doors" in Antarctica have been discovered on Google Maps, surprising social networks. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
Social media users discovered an object resembling a "doorway" in satellite images of Antarctica. It is located southeast of the Japanese station Syowa and sparked a wave of discussions online. Commentators began to speculate whether it could be the home of unknown creatures or a spaceship from "Star Trek".
However, as scientists have found, there is nothing mystical in this discovery. Professor of glaciology Bethan Davies from Newcastle University, having analyzed the data from the image, noted: it is an iceberg that got stuck in shallow water and is now melting. "It's a feature of this area of stagnant sea ice in East Antarctica," she reported.
Volcanologist Professor John Smellie added that the top of the "doorway" might have formed as a result of ice melting. "I'm almost certain it's just a natural phenomenon, and there is no need to worry," he concluded.
Over the past few decades, due to climate change, the plant cover in Antarctica has increased more than 10 times. Researchers analyzed satellite images from 1986 to 2021. In 1986, vegetation covered less than one square kilometer, while in 2021 it was nearly 12 square kilometers. The total area of the Antarctic Peninsula is 500 thousand square kilometers.
