A local official in Odesa arrested for bribery — details of the scheme.


The official from the Pivdenny District Administration demanded money from a woman for permission to open a kiosk in Luzanivka, Odesa. However, he was caught on the spot while receiving the bribe, and now he faces imprisonment. According to media reports, this concerns the acting head of the department for control and monitoring of the territory, Pavlo Vdovychenko.
The Odesa region police reported that the woman approached the official with a request for permission to set up a trade facility on the 'Luzanivka' beach. The official told her that he would receive the documents only if he was rewarded. The price for the service was 1500 dollars. He also warned that if she did not pay, the entrepreneur would not be able to trade in this area.
Details of the case
After receiving the bribe personally in his car, the official was detained by the police. To hide his actions, he instructed the woman to place the money in a box with alcohol. Investigators confiscated the money, as well as the official's mobile phone and car as material evidence.
What punishment awaits
The official has been informed of suspicion of receiving illegal benefits. For this crime, he could face up to 10 years in prison with asset confiscation. It should be noted that there have recently been cases involving a police officer who took bribes for late-night passes and searches at customs in Odesa.
