In Ukraine, pork prices have soared: what's with the lard.

Interesting changes are taking place in the meat market in Ukraine. Over the past month, pork prices have increased significantly, while the price of lard remains stable.
According to the price monitoring by "Minfin," all types of pork have become more expensive. The price of pork belly rose from 165.86 UAH to 171.05 UAH per kilogram, and pork shoulder rose from 163.30 UAH to 165.35 UAH per kilogram. A slight increase in price was also recorded for pork neck, which now costs 267.20 UAH instead of 266.10 UAH per kilogram.
The price of pork side increased from 163.22 UAH to 172.63 UAH per kilogram, and pork ribs from 172.30 UAH to 172.97 UAH. The largest price increase was recorded for pork for shish kebab, which rose from 233.15 UAH to 239.90 UAH per kilogram.
«As for lard, a traditional Ukrainian product, the situation remains stable. The price of homemade lard has not changed and is 234.00 UAH per kilogram,» experts note.
It is also worth noting that in July 2024, the price of salted lard was 242.84 UAH per kilogram.
The pork industry in Ukraine shows positive trends in foreign trade amid these price fluctuations. According to the "Ukrainian Pig Breeders Association", pork exports have exceeded imports for the second month in a row. The main export direction remains the United Arab Emirates, accounting for 85.7% of all Ukrainian pork exports.
