The plan to end the war in Ukraine may include the deployment of European forces on Ukrainian territory, provided that an agreement on a ceasefire is reached, said an official from the administration of US President Donald Trump, according to the New York Post.

The structure of the plan has not yet been determined, but it is already known that it is proposed to create a 'joint commission' with representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and a third country to monitor compliance with the ceasefire and observe along the front line. The US may become a financial partner along with the third party, rather than withdrawing its military contingent.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the plan may also involve recognizing the annexed Crimea as Russian territory. This information has not been confirmed, but the Trump administration stated that it largely depends on the issue of territories.

'Ukraine is ready to give up 20% of its land if this is seen as recognition of territory de facto, rather than de jure,' said an American official. 'De facto means that we recognize that the Russians occupied this land, but we do not claim that Ukraine will give it up forever. De jure means that we recognize that the Russians annexed this land, and we will never see it again,' he explained.

So far, the positions of the conflicting parties are unknown. Kyiv and Moscow are exploring possible terms and deny the willingness to sign an agreement to avoid the US exiting the negotiation process.

According to the publication's report, Russia has not yet stated its seriousness regarding the conclusion of a peace agreement following the plan, which has long postponed Trump's attempts to cease fire and conclude a deal. This week, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff will try to change the situation by presenting a final proposal that may include easing sanctions.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a key step towards ending the war with Russia.
