The European Parliament supported 'trade visa-free' for steel and iron from Ukraine

The European Parliament voted to extend the 'trade visa-free' regime for Ukrainian iron and steel for three years. The decision was made so that Ukrainian producers can continue to export their products to the European Union.

354 deputies voted in favor, 147 against, and 53 abstained.

The relevant decision was adopted in the European Parliament in the resolution 'Suspension of certain parts of Regulation (EU) 2015/478 regarding the import of Ukrainian products to the EU' on Thursday, May 8.

Long-term solution for trade relations

The European Commission is working on a long-term solution that will ensure greater economic transparency in trade relations with Ukraine. Supporting the Ukrainian metallurgy industry, which is a key sector of the country's economy, is important.

'The Ukrainian metallurgy industry is the backbone of Ukraine's economy. It continues to operate despite many workers going to the front, and factories facing brutal attacks from Russia,' said the rapporteur of the European Parliament, Swedish MEP Karin Karlsbro (Renew group).

A significant step will be the confirmation of this decision by the Council of the European Union, which will open new opportunities for Ukrainian producers and strengthen trade ties between Ukraine and the EU.
